About NCFI

From a short video preview, to the Vision, Mission and Strategic Plans of NCFI, you will find in this section all you need to know about this dynamic organisation, and how it connects Christian nurses around the world.

Our History

Nurses Christian Fellowship International, was founded in 1958 as an independent, non-denominational, non-governmental, non-partisan corporation comprised of national Nurses Christian Fellowships (NNCFs).  From its beginnings, when Scottish nurse, Johan Allen began to search out countries where there were Nurses Christian Fellowship (NCF) groups, and bring them together for mutual benefit, NCFI has been connecting nurses worldwide.

The remarkable story of the foundation, expansion and development of this unique organisation can be found in a book by Pat Ashworth, a past President of NCFI. (Ashworth, P. (2012) A History of Nurses Christian Fellowship International. The first 50 years. Belfast, Blackstaff Press).

The June 2020 issue of the Christian Nurses International Journal, highlights the vision and inspirational leadership that moved forward the ministry of NCFI, internationally and regionally, from its beginnings to the present day.

President's Greeting

Dr Anne Biro

There are some conversations or events that have a significant impact on us. For me, one of those conversations was with a nurse working in a hospital. The nurse felt alone in her workplace because there weren’t other Christians where she worked – or at least none that she knew of. She could talk with her colleagues about professional issues, but not from a faith perspective. As a member of a local church, she had spiritual input and could meet and pray with others, but they weren’t nurses and didn’t understand the unique issues that she faced in her professional work.

The need for Christian nurses and midwives to be able to support and learn from one another from both a professional and faith perspective is one of the main reasons that Nurses Christian Fellowship International (NCFI) was established and continues today.

NCFI has a unique ministry in connecting Christian nurses and midwives from around the world. Through fellowship and the sharing of wisdom and experiences, we seek to encourage and equip Christian nurses and midwives to integrate Biblical principles and Christ-centered values in clinical practice, leadership, education, and research.

We invite you to join us by connecting with other Christian nurses and midwives in your country or region or internationally. Together let us “…encourage oneanother and build each other up”.  (1 Thessalonians 5:11)
